  • Show students to put their front teeth together, keep their tongue at the top of their mouth, pucker their lips, and breath out air to make the ‘sh’ sound.
  • Have students try to keep blowing out the ‘ch’ sound. (They can’t)
  • Explain that you can keep blowing on the ‘sh’ sound but you cannot keep blowing on the ‘ch’ sound because it is just a puff of air.
  • Have students practice these words with a partner.
  • Have a list of ‘sh’ and ‘ch’ words. Give each student a red stop sign, and a green go sign.
  • Read the words, and have the students hold up the green sign every time they hear a ‘sh’ word where they can hear the teacher’s breath. Have the students hold up the red sign when they hear a ‘ch’ word where they cannot hear the teacher’s breath.
